Pro-war Biden’s Nobel Nomination

When you thought 2020 couldn’t get any stranger, it does, without fail. From raging fires sweeping through Australia to COVID-19 to the mass riots across America, the year has been unprecedentedly manic depressive. Well, September decided not to fail us with the nomination of Former Vice President Joe Biden for the Nobel Peace Prize squeezed into the month, right at the end, on the day of the first 2020 Presidential Debate between President Donald J Trump and Former Vice President Joe Biden.

You may be pondering on what you have missed that is deserving of one of the highest honors in the world; at least, I would expect you to be of the idea that he has literally done nothing other than what you’d expect from a politician during a time of crisis- express the need for peace.

Chris Bryant, a member of the Labour Party in British Parliament, is the man behind Biden’s Nobel Peace Prize nomination; the Labour Party being the “Democratic Socialists” of the United Kingdom leaves no surprise as to why. Here’s the reason Bryant gave:

“When American cities have been in flames and citizen has been pitched against citizen, Joe has been a calming influence to bear. When others have resorted to violent solutions, he has argued that the best force is the force of argument because guns can stop a heart, but well-placed words can change many hearts, and many hearts can change the world.”

Chris Bryant, Labour Party UK

I have read it repeatedly and still can’t figure out what it is he did that is more worthy than hardcore anti-gun activists who’ve spent decades fighting against the use of guns and working towards changing hearts of the world? Would they not be more deserving? What ACTIONS did he actually take at all to be nominated?

I decided to take a gander into what Joe Biden’s history of peace looked like. It didn’t reflect my personal idea of peace to be in favor of four separate wars while in Senate or as Vice President. Writing the 1994 Crime Bill that caused more violence in the black communities by imprisoning a disproportionate number of black fathers for outrageously long sentences, removing them from the home, leading to children that have a higher likelihood of being criminals doesn’t feel very peaceful either. Bailing out violent criminals is against what I believe to be peaceful as well. Let’s break down Joe Biden’s record of peace.

I specifically remember Don Lemon finally saying, after over 3 months of looting, rioting, and violence by the Black Lives Matter movement and Antifa, that the riots need to stop because the Democrats were dropping in polls1 as a result of the drawn out chaos. The violence that The Democratic Nominees would not condemn2. The same violence the Democrat Governors wouldn’t let Trump quell, as the Biden campaign raised money for the Minnesota Freedom Fund3 to bail out violent rioters including domestic abusers and child rapists4.

In fact, his Vice Presidential running mate, Senator Kamala Harris, actively raised funds specifically for the rioters to be bailed out.

In fact, Former Vice President Biden has a longstanding reputation for being pro-war, actively supporting the wars in Iraq, Serbia, Syria, and Libya5. He has claimed that he was against the war in Iraq from the beginning, but that is simply not true.

Republican Senator Rand Paul, MD (KY-I) describes President Trump as someone who wants to end wars and casting Joe Biden as someone “who consistently called for more war.” “Joe Biden voted for the Iraq War, which President Trump has long called the worst geopolitical mistake of our generation,” Paul said Aug. 25 during the second night of the Republican National Convention. “I fear Biden will choose war again. He supported the war in Serbia, Syria, Libya.

Senator Rand Paul

In WRAL’s fact check on the subject of Biden’s continuous support for the United States’ involvement in foreign wars shows that in October 2002, then-U.S. Senator Biden voted in favor of a resolution, that authorized Bush to enforce ”all relevant” United Nations Security Council resolutions on Iraq and if needed, to use military force against Iraq. WRAL said he, “voted for a resolution that paved the way for the Iraq War, and for a non-binding resolution to authorize military air operations against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (Serbia and Montenegro). The conflicts in Syria and Libya happened when Biden was vice president and followed the policies of President Barack Obama.”

So, not only was he not against war throughout his career as a politician, he has been part of the reason we entered wars in foreign countries. Biden, as the senior Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for most of the war, had a unique position of being able to greatly impact the outcome of the choice of going to war. In a speech, during one of the hearings he held in regards to the Iraq war, on the floor of the Senate6, Biden actually said that “failure to overwhelmingly support” the resolution was “likely to enhance the prospects that war will occur.” The objective of the resolution was to compel Iraq to destroy its weapons of mass destruction, Biden said. He left open the possibility that Hussein might “miscalculate” and “misjudge” U.S. resolve. Weapons of mass destruction were never found from the time the war started in 2003 to the time it ended in 2011.

When asked about the war in Iraq, and if it was a mistake, in 2005, replied that we didn’t go in hard enough with enough military presence, “It was a mistake to assume the president would use the authority we gave him properly. […] We gave the president the authority to unite the world to isolate Saddam. And the fact of the matter is, we went too soon. We went without sufficient force. And we went without a plan.”

Leftist column “The Daily Beast” even reported on Biden’s history of “screwing up Iraq over and over again7 back in December of 2019; stemming from a claim from Biden in September that he was against the war since the beginning. The Daily Beast described Biden’s part in the war, “Biden contextualized the war within an assertion that America has the right to enforce its standards of behavior in the name of the international community, even when the international community rejects American intervention.”

He consitently mentions his deceased son that fought in Iraq if the military is mentioned, as a facade that he was not one who showed support for the Iraq war. From CNN “Biden said that “from the very moment” President George W. Bush launched his “shock and awe” military campaign8, and “right after” that occurred, “I opposed what he was doing, and spoke to him.”
It’s false that Biden opposed the war from the moment Bush started it in March 2003. Biden repeatedly spoke in favor of the war both before and after it began.”

Politico reported in January of 2016 on Biden’s support for using US military in foreign countries stating9, “Biden also seemed to go past Obama administration statements in suggesting the U.S. would be willing to use military means if necessary saying, “We do know that it would be better if we can reach a political solution, but we are prepared — we are prepared if that’s not possible to make — to have a military solution to this operation in taking out Daesh,” the vice president said, using the Arabic acronym for the Islamic State in the Levant, also known as ISIS or ISIL.”

Surely someone who has a history of decades of being actively involved in having our troops involved with wars (of which we had no connection to) in foreign countries is not a man worthy of such an achievement. Don’t forget that the Atlantic wanted to put an end to the Nobel Prize10 simply because they believed President Trump being nominated discredited the entire Peace Prize concept. I wonder if they support it now that Biden was nominated?

After all of that on his position on just one of the four wars he openly supported in foreign countries, whether they wanted US involvement or not; how could this be anything but political? Is being calming and saying arguing is better than shooting someone now Nobel worthy, yet peace in the Middle East is disgraceful somehow? In the 5th source I cited, there is more information about the impact Biden had on decisions to include the US in the other three nations, if you are curious.
