Alternative Social Media Does Exist

In the wake of Facebook sending out their new policies that will take place on October 1st, I have seen lots of people leaving Facebook for other social media platforms. What I deduced from the new guidelines is that Facebook has decided to ditch its Section 230 protection from liability for what is posted on their platform and become a publisher so they can be biased about what they allow to be posted on their site.

Many have been asking about the social media platforms MeWe and Parler. Heres my take:

MeWe is set-up like a Facebook, but with freedom. Check out their Bill of Rights (included in the pictures in this post), and you can see they do not sell your info, have 3rd party ads, or take ownership of your photos like facebook. They also have very reasonable standards that pretty much just dont allow inciting violence or posting pornography. Simple. I also enjoy the chat feature for groups, and have met some pretty cool people and had very informative and interesting conversations with people in the groups I’m in.

Parler is set-up like a Twitter with freedom. The totally awesome ex-secret serviceman Dan Bongino is one of the owners of it. You have a much higher character count allotted to your posts, I believe its 1,000 characters. One feature of Parler is the user’s ability to moderate what shows up in their feed from setting it to automatically blurring sensitive content down to filtering out posts with words you dont want to see. Their community guidelines are in the pictures included in this post.

There are other platforms out there that are popular like Minds, WeGo, MyFreedombook, Gab, and Diaspora. I havent found them to be as user friendly, and I was really looking for platforms that were more similar to Facebook and Twitter because other than silencing conservative voices, I really like the setups. WeGo didnt have an app for it when I created my account, and that was a huge turn off for me.
If youd like to follow me on Minds: @BionicBacon (I havent actually posted on it yet though).

I hope that was helpful!
